Our Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) Commitment Explained

London’s Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is a regulation introduced by the government in Central London that officially took effect on 8th April 2019. Aimed at improving the air quality and reducing gaseous pollution, vehicles that fail to meet the stricter emission standards set forth will be subject to double the emission charges when entering ULEZ.

Responding to this – and as an environmentally-conscious business – Ace Van Hire has invested heavily in upgrading our vehicle fleet (from small to Luton vans) to ensure that the requisite EU emission standards are met. This means that customers WON’T have to pay a charge when they hire one of the new vans in our fleet. Please check you have hired a ULEZ qualifying vehicle from us, we are still currently running both qualifying and non-qualifying vehicles until we can change the fleet completely.

As surprising as it may sound, recently commissioned research through IFF (one of the largest independent research companies in the UK) found that 29% of all UK businesses were unaware of the proposed changes. Ace Van Hire was NOT one of these businesses.

Should you require van hire in New Cross or Croydon areas, rest-assured we can easily facilitate your request, with a service that is still heralded as one of the premier ones in the region. Moreover, customers can save on inflated changes when they hire one of our new vans.

What Vans Does ULEZ Apply To?

According to Commercial Fleet 2018, it has been estimated that 80% of vans on the road fail to meet EU emission standards. Non-Euro-6 compliant diesel vans will be subject to ULEZ charges. Euro 6 diesel vans were first sold in September 2016, meaning that any vans acquired prior to that date are unlikely to meet emission standards.

How Much Will the ULEZ Charge Cost Your Business?

If a single van in your fleet does not meet the emission standards, a daily charge of £12.50 will be applicable. This equates to £250 per month or £3000 per year. A fleet of 50 vans will be liable to pay £625 per day and £150,000 per year.

What Emission Standards do Trucks Have to Meet to Be Exempt from the ULEZ?

Euro standards are the range if emission controls that dictate the limits for pollutants emitting from vehicles. To satisfy the required standards, lorries, trucks and heavy-duty vehicles must meet the Euro VI standard.

What Are Does ULEZ Cover?
